More Michael Vick to Buffalo talk

As some may have heard, Tony Dungy speaking on the SNF pregame show mentioned the Buffalo Bills as a "dark horse" option for Michael Vick's services following the 2009 season. Probably not much of a story until ESPN decided to pick it up..

"I told Michael to just worry about this year," Dungy said. "It's technically up to Philadelphia. If they want him back, he has to stay there. If they don't, there are some teams looking for quarterbacks: Cleveland, St. Louis and Washington.

"But I think a dark horse is Buffalo. They talked originally. There was some communication there. I think that could be a good spot."

Bills starter Trent Edwards struggled this season before sustaining a concussion. Ryan Fitzpatrick, a career backup, has been the starter with Edwards out of the lineup.

Vick has completed 2 of 6 passes for 6 yards and rushed 11 times for 25 yards, mostly out of the wildcat formation.

The Bills obviously need help at the QB position but is Vick the best option? Perhaps a year of training and training camp and Vick could be effective but currenly he looks like a washed up has been.

**UPDATE**

Vick doesn't see him self staying in Philly next year

"It would be hard," Vick said of returning to the Eagles in a conversation with Bob Costas. "It would be an everyday struggle. But I would have to take that time to hone my skills and get better. I'm excited about the opportunity I have moving forward whether it's with Philadelphia or another team."

  1. Signing Vick would be an awful pickup. He is currently a nonfactor on a competent team, both on and off the field. If he came to the Bills next year, he would be the 2009-2010 version of Terrell Owens: a halfway decent athlete failed to be properly utilized in an abysmal offense.

I'd rather Buffalo spend the money on an offensive coordinator that knows what he's doing. If we got Vick with the staff we currently have, we couldn't run the Wildcat, Wildbuffalo, whatever you want to call it effectively - or at all.

Vick is not the answer. The answer's in the draft. Losman was a bust, Edwards was a bust. Draft a QB in the first round from a school NOT in Conference USA. Put a fucking product on the field.

  4. Y'all could use a QB like Colt McCoy.

  5. I do not believe that Colt is a homosexual. Far from it, it is my understanding that he is engaged to be married.

I am also not sure why you would argue that McCoy would not be an upgrade over your current QB's or Mike Vick. It seems that statistically Colt is a far better QB in college than Ryan Fitzpatrick was at Hahvuhd -- and I believe the Big 12 is a tougher conference than the Ivy League as well. Still, y'all could use a first round QB, not Mike Vick. If you want to ignore that and call me gay instead, go right ahead. But if Buffalo is dumb enough to sign Vick, they will get nothing in return.

  6. Colt Mccoy is a fucking joke. He will never be a good NFL quarterback. Running the spread offense in college is a lot different then running an actual NFL offense. No quarterback in this draft class is worth taking in the first round. Mccoy and Bradford (pre-injury included) are not NFL quarterbacks. They are the next batch of Losman, Ramsey, and Boller

  8. Just so people are aware why Steve is saying not to listen to anything Dan B. says its because of this statement by Dan the great.
"I didn't want a thing to do with the Texans myself when we first got them. I swore off the NFL when they robbed Houston of its' team. I played fantasy but wouldn't follow one team again. Around three years ago I started to follow the team again."
He has only been a fan of this team for three years so honestly he's barely a fan and he has no credibility. And Dan also stated how he noted how he messed up when posting those suicide stats that he posted on another post but I've yet to find anywhere where he directly stats. "Wow I fucked up and read those stats wrong." Maybe because this guy is so arrogant he actually believes he's still right.
I just figured I would allow people to know what Steve was implying before Dan says he never gave up on his city's team.

  9. Oh one more thing before I run out of quarters. Dan B. We obviously all hate you but I think its funny that you take all our comments to heart. Can't you see we all just laugh about you and how pathetic you are by continuing to post on a "Buffalo Sports Blog." I'm starting to think your a closet fan, would you like me to send you my old Joe Panos jersey?

  10. Why can't spread offense QB's work? If fans are going to remove any QB who is playing in the spread in college it leaves the Bills with Clausen or waiting for Matt Barkley. No QB is worth a 1st rd pick, what a fucking joke. Waste a 1st rd pick on a defensive back from Ohio St. Just cause a QB is drafted in the 1st rd doesn't mean he'll be successful. Though the success rate of QB's taken after the 1st rd is about 3%. http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/23qb/23qbs.php

  12. I said I didn't emotionally invest myself in an NFL team after the NFL took the first one. Doesn't mean I didn't know who Domanick Davis was numbnuts.

I suppose a real fan just says their piece of shit team is going to win every game until they don't. Then retroactively says they were really predicting their team was going to lose. Oh really? Might want to mention that in your fucking prediction moron.

And of course, none of this has anything to do with the topic of the thread, which is that Mike Vick would be a smart addition to any team, much less one as bereft of skill players on offense as Buffalo is. We can see from his performance this year (on a roster even the most delusional stuck in a time capsule for 15 years Bills fan has to admit is better than Buffalo's) that Vick sucks. Now apparently Anonymous steve has decided that everyone from the state of Texas is gay and sucks, so that is why the Bills should go with a convicted felon at QB. There is no reasonable justification for this opinion. Mike Vick has been a catastrophe everywhere he's been.

But you're right. Since Dan B. is gay according to Anyonymous steve's anonymous buddy, Colt must suck. That's why he's lost fewer games in his career than you guys in Buffalo have this season.

I'm not saying Colt McCoy is the second coming. I am saying he is leaps and bounds better than any QB on your roster. And he is a better QB than Mike Vick.

  13. Also, It's pretty funny to read about how I'm giving up on my team while you are in the midst of openly hoping for failure so you can get a higher draft pick. Apparently in Buffalo hoping the Bills lose = die hard fan. Guess I really am a closet fan.

Except for this week. I hope you throttle the Titans and maim Vince Young. Y'all think I said mean things about you? I took pity on you. You have no idea what I say about Nashville and Tits fans.

  14. I believe Colt lost three games as a redshirt freshman lost 3 games, lost two the following year and one the year after that totaling 6 loses. Matt Leinart seemingly never lost so that's a bad barometer. The major concern about Colt is his 38% completion % on passes over 5 yards as touted by HERBstreit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah Matt was undefeated except when Leinart lost to UT.

And Colt played like 1 series against K-State his first year. Hard to pin that loss on him.

Didn't Herbie also predict that Oklahoma would win the national title? I'm not sure that he has the world's most uncanny nose for success. It's also a little odd to say that his completion percentage at +5 yards is the sole reason he is guaranteed to fail. Especially considering he has the highest completion percentage in college football. I'm guessing your animosity comes from your irrational hatred of anything from Texas. If Colt's name was Vito Cardoza and he graduated from Syracuse you would be in his nuts.

But hey, don't wanna blow a first round pick on a QB? Fine, Case Keenum will be a phenomenal late round pickup.

  16. Sam Bradford being hurt killed any chance Oklahoma had at a championship. Take your mouth off of Colt's knob for a second and be reasonable. McCoy is good and easily a 1st rd pick. His problems come with longer throws. The major gripe fans of the Bills have with Edwards is he's constantly checking down. What does Texas have anything to do with thinking their are better options than McCoy, namely Clausen if he declares. Most Bills fans would've preferred Orakpo to Maybin.
